It's Time To Take The First Step

Are you ready to take that first step, if so then let me help guide you on how you can make that first move.

So, you have thought long and hard and know that something doesn’t feel right and it’s time to act.

The First Step - Doctors Appointment

The first step is to make an appointment to see your GP and explain to them that you feel you have Gender Dysphoria and that you would like to be referred onto a Gender Identity Clinic.

I know this step is daunting and it will take a large amount of will power and confidence to be able to openly tell someone, especially when it’s something very personnel. But once you have, you will feel like a huge weight has been lifted.

You may find that your GP hasn’t faced this type of situation before, so be aware that they will have to do their own research before you hear anything, or you can follow the links below to access each areas guidelines to take with you:

  • England’s NHS Guidelines
  • Wales NHS Guidelines
  • Scotland’s NHS Guidelines

Motivate your GP

Keep on at your GP if you think they are taking too long in getting back to you. Don’t let them tell you that it can’t be funded or they can’t help as they may have outdated information that they are referencing.

However, if they have dealt with this before then they will refer you to either a Gender Identity Clinic or a local Psychiatrist, this will depend on the area in which you live. The clinic offers expert support and help as well as assessment and diagnosis. There are a number of Clinics based all over the country. For a full list of Gender Clinics check out the Gender Identity Clinics in the UK for further details.
